And now for something cute

The packaging and unusual flavour of this H&M lipbalm were too cute to resist. Tea and Mint Chocolate? Yum!

This cost £2.99 and was available in another flavour at the store I got this one in. I think it was tea and toffee, and had a picture of a squirrel on the lid instead of a bunny rabbit.

Everyday Look for Work Spring 2012

This is a look that I’ve worn quite a lot this spring and summer so far.  I like it because although it’s super quick to put together (5-10 min for the full face) it looks really colourful and polished.

Here’s what I used to create the look.  As you can see there aren’t that many products to it.

I used a MAC quad from the Spring limited edition collection Shop MAC called Shop and Drop.  I find that these shadows work best over a non-creamy/sticky primer so I like to use my MUA Professional Eye Primer for this look.  It’s a really great budget primer that currently retails for £2.50 and is available from selected Superdrug stores or their website.

I have a few MAC eyeshadow quads from various limited edition collections now but I’m not sure that I’d buy any more. While they may seem at first glance to be good value – four eyeshadows plus a palette for less than the normal cost of four shadows without a palette, there have been issues with the quality of the products in recent MAC limited editions and also it’s only good value if you’re actually going to use all the shades. This is my current favourite MAC quad but I still only use two of the shadows – so not such good value after all really!

I tend to use a flat eyeshadow brush to place Hypnotizing over my eyelids then blend Power Boosted into my crease with a rounded blending brush before adding a couple of coats of black mascara, and that’s it.  I don’t bother with any eyeliner or eyepencil or shadow under my eyes for definition…I think the combination of these colours create a lovely effect just by themselves.

Above: The finished eye look – colourful and polished, and only takes about five minutes to apply.

I used a light peachy blush with golden shimmer over my cheeks and temples.  One of my current favourites is the central colour from my Sleek Blush by Three trio in Lace.  I mixed it with a tiny amount on the bright coral on the right as well.

Finally I finished off with a slick of light pink lipstick. My everyday lippie at the moment is my H&M lipstick in pink seashell which I’ve posted some more details photos of here.

And that’s it!  Hope you like this look.  I’m always running late in the mornings so I love 5-minute make-up and I’ll be posting some more everyday eyeshadow looks soon!

H&M Summer 2012 Lipstick in Pink Sea Shell

I will admit, I did just buy this lipstick because I thought the packaging was cool!  H&M have a range of lipsticks out this summer in tubes that match a selection of the prints of their summer 2012 clothes collection.  I went for this nude pink shade as at £1.99 I wasn’t expecting the quality to be great so I decided to go for a colour that could fade gracefully.

2012-05-30

I find the colour very ‘90s…it reminds me of the nude lipstick that Pamela Anderson used to wear actually!  It’s quite a shiny, sheer light coral pink.  I tend to pop some on when I’m on the bus to work in the mornings and it tends to have faded away by my second cup of morning coffee around 11am.  The formula is very moisturing and shiny so I guess it has a high oil content.

Maybe worth checking out if you’re interested in a cheap and cheerful light coral lippie for summer, but best skipped if you need something with a bit of staying power and you’re willing to pay more.

Something For the Weekend

This is just a quick post to show you the make-up that I wore today, and my latest must-have accessory…cat’s ears!

2011-09-243

I know that is a super-indulgent number of photos of myself but I just think my cat’s ears are so cute ha ha.  I got them on Fri from H&M for £3.99.  They were with the other hair accessories so I don’t think they’re a Halloween line, but I’m not going to be waiting for Halloween to wear them out and about anyway.  I’ll be wearing them from Friday night till Monday morning every week!

I took these photos after getting ready in the afternoon to go out to a jazz concert followed by dinner (incidentally it was a fantastic concert at the South Bank Centre, definitely worth checking out their programme if you’re London-based as they show some really interesting stuff and tickets are very reasonably priced – I paid £12.50 and the concert lasted 2h).  I’m wearing a silvery-blue eyeshadow teamed with some purple in the outer corner and purple eyeliner and, as always, plenty of mascara.  I’m wearing Rimmel Vinyl Max lipgloss which I just posted about here.

woodland creatures stud earrings, £3.99 full price, H&M.
I actually picked these up full price in Feb this year but I thought they were so cute I’d post some pics.  My favourites are the hares and stags.  The hares are even both different – you can see that one has a bent ear.

I actually had the same pendant in a different colour and length before which I bought several months ago.  I can’t resist a piece of cute robot paraphernalia though so I went ahead and bought this second one too.
