Five Beauty “Rules”…

Just for something different I thought I’d share five beauty “rules” or popular techniques that I never follow or bother with.  My beauty philosophy in general though is just to have fun and do whatever you feel like!

  1. Eyebrows – I never fill in my brows, and to be honest I hardly ever shape them either.  I just tend to pluck them once every couple of months and just leave them to their own devices in between.  I have quite a defined brow shape anyway so I’m happy to leave them be.
  2. Inner Lash Lines – I hardly ever bother with eye pencil on my inner lash lines. You will occasionally see me wearing some but generally it’ll be a bright colour or for a special occasion. For one I have small eyes and it just makes them look smaller, and for another I find it quite uncomfortable to apply. I used to wear eye pencil on my inner lash lines a lot when I was younger but I always always had problems with it smudging all around my eyes (although that was one way of creating a smoky eye look I suppose) and then one day I just decided that it didn’t even look that good on me so it just wasn’t worth bothering with anymore.
  3. Mascara on the lower lashes – I have so few lower lashes I just don’t bother.  I think I’d look much weirder wearing mascara on the few lashes that I do have than I look simply wearing none at all.
  4. Concealer – I hardly ever wear concealer. Maybe because I’ve just never truly mastered the art of application nine times out of ten I find that it just ends up making the area I’m trying to conceal look even worse!
  5. Contouring – I never bother contouring with bronzer underneath my cheek bones, I prefer to just whack some shimmery blush on my cheeks and go.  Much simpler and less accident prone.

Now that I’ve gotten started I can think of loads of other little beauty quirks that I have – but I set out to do five so I’ll leave the rest just now for another post!

‘20s Party

This is the look that I wore to a 1920s themed birthday party last month.  I really liked the way my hair turned out although I hardly ever ever bother to curl my hair as it’s such an effort with my hair type.  In fact, the last time before this that I wore my hair curly was to another birthday party two years ago!

I basically went for bright, dolly cheeks and a very structured, drawn on round lip (I applied the lipstick slightly inside my natural lip line to create a very round shape) and left the eyes quite simple with just a thick flick of shimmery purple eyeliner and some mascara.  I used Illamasqua lipsticks – a dark purple all over with red dabbed on the inside, and with a bit of glitter thrown into the mix for good luck!  The texture of the lipsticks that I used was fantastic, lovely and creamy so it didn’t dry my lips out but still lasted for hours.

Here’s a close up of my lips which shows the pink glitter a little bit more clearly (although I think my lips look a bit like a vampire’s in this close up shot!)

I had lots of fun creating this look and I’ll definitely be wearing two tone lips out again!

Birch Bark Nails

I’m back!  I finally got round to fixing my laptop.  To be honest I was kind of enjoying the peace and quiet that having a break from my laptop turned out to be!

Anyway to ease myself back into the habit of blogging I thought I’d start with a really quick post to show how I’m wearing my nails at the moment.  I picked up a couple of new BarryM Instant Nail Effects crackle nail polish in blue and white (around £4 each) on Friday and painted them over a greige (I used Smoky Canvas by Revlon).  I think the nails with the white crackle on top really look like silver birch bark.  I quite like this colour combination.

While I’m blogging I might as well pop in this photo of the eye make-up I wore today.  Spring seems to be in full swing here in London now so I wanted to wear a bit of green and channel some zingy spring energy.  I used the Nars eyeshadow duo in Rated R which I bought recently. The colours are really bright, just how I like them!
